Your Personal Culinary Experience with Master of Nutrition and Red Seal Chef

Michelle Metz

About Chef Michelle

Welcome to Cooking Toronto. My name is Michelle Metz. I was born in Australia and moved to Japan in my early adult life and have traveled extensively. The experiences I have had in Japan, Vietnam, Mexico, India, and North America, in addition to the experiences of my youth, have shaped my palate and my understanding of how food brings people together. I love to share in the excitement of preparing a meal together and enjoy seeing all ages discover the beauty and ease of cooking.

I have a Master of Science in Human Nutrition and am a member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management. I attended Chef training at the Niagara Culinary Institute and have my Canadian Interprovincial Red Seal.

SINCE 2008

In addition to my experience with personalized chef services, in my 15 years in Toronto, I have managed restaurants, hotel food and beverage departments, a boarding school kitchen, and, over the pandemic, the food services department in a retirement home. I have my Food Handler’s Certificate, My Smart Serve Certificate, and my CPR. I am insured and have received a clear result through a Vulnerable Sector Check. These technical aspects are important for me to be able to do a reputable job. What sets me apart is my ability to use these skills and licenses to shape an experience with people that surprises and inspires them to keep cooking and having fun in the kitchen.

My clients from age 2 to 92, have invited me into their homes for hundreds of classes, allowed me to cook at their parties and events and trusted me to help them meet their nutritional goals. I look forward to cooking with you!

My mother lives alone - do you have a monthly meal package that is specific to seniors?

Yes, I do. Creating meals for one and eating alone can be challenging, I can help improve her nutrition and make eating fun again. There is an example menu on the daily meals page.It follows all Health Canada guidelines.

Chef Hat or Toque

Some of the children are too young to decorate,

but I still want the cupcakes - what happens there?

Children can either decorate with a parent or a friend, or I can decorate them. Contact me for more information.

Can my guests cook at my dinner party - like a class?

Yes - all parties can be interactive as a cooking class. Your guests get to feel like rock stars and learn new skills, and you don’t need to clean up. If you would like your guests to relax - see the catering menu - I can do it all.

Do your monthly classes build on each other?

Yes, they do. You can join any month, but it is best to start with the foundations. I can do previous months classes with you on request.
